The Importance Of Keywords Research

For an online business to success, you need to find the actual terms people are using to search for information, products and services on the search engines. The advantage of a proper keywords research is that the online business will know the terms being searched for as well as understanding the needs of their customers. And this will help to direct customers to their websites which in turn can result in more sales.

However, bear in mind that the demand for keywords changes from time to time and is influenced by factors such as the media influence, our new hobbies e.g my space, and special occasions like Christmas or mother's day.

To do a proper keywords research, an online business will make a note of all the keywords relating to their products or services and then modify the list by adding buying terms like save, order etc.

Now put they will have to insert these keywords into their web site's title tags, source code and all the other pages of the website.

There are tons of tools to help the online business do a proper keyword research. These include

Google Keyword Tool - http://adwords.google.com/select/keywordToolExternal Free and will give you both the plural and singular version of keywords.
Overtune Keyword Selector - http://inventory.overture.com/ Free to use
Keyword Discovery - http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/ Free Trial
Good Keyword- http://www.goodkeywords.com/ Free to use
The Dowser Keyword- http://www.thedowser.com/ Free Trial
WordTracker- http://www.wordtracker.com/ Free Trial
Keywords Analyzer- http://www.keywordsanalyzer.com/ Free Preview

I have use most of these keyword tools while carrying out my keyword research. I found the Keywords Analyzer offer tools to cover highly profitable keywords and niches such as

Search Page Optimization which enables you to spy on your competition web pages
Advanced Search features on each of the keywords to reveal layers and layers of more keywords.
Ability to search related terms thereby tapping on your prospects' mind
See what your competition are bidding for as it analyzes Google, Yahoo,Enhance and Miva bids
Special arbitrage features helps you to profit from adsense ads as you can see the difference between the values of the keywords on the other search engines.
It shows searches from other countries. Thus you can uncover foreign niches
The Brainstorming feature will never let you run out of niches for your online business
Integrate both Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery
The analyzer filters helps you to zero in and pull out the keywords you require.
Five powerful keywords management tools; permutations, remove duplicates, exclude words, misspelling (5 different variations), and correct keywords.
What I don't live about Keywords Analyzer is that the software didn't include user tutorial for beginners but you can get this information from their website.

Keywords research? It is an ever ending task. Every online business wished they can read through their prospects' mind...

Internet Marketing Quiz

Question - If I need to target a specific region, is it helpful to have a domain from that country?

Answer - Yes. Both hosting location and domain extension matter and can influence search engine ranking in regional search engines. If you are attempting to target a specific country, you could very well benefit from purchasing a domain with that countries extension and hosting the website on a server that is located in that country. The larger country specific search engines, generally rank local domains higher in the search results.

Question - What is the difference between Google's aging delay and the so called sandbox?

Answer - Great questions. The aging delay is often labeled and assumed to be the same as Google's famous sandbox (that may or may not exist). The Google aging delay is not a penalty, it is merely a filter. Google does not feel new websites are necessarily "trustworthy" so while they acknowledge that the new websites exist they don't generally include them in their search index results. They continue to monitor the new websites over time, paying particular attention to who and how many websites are linking to the new site. Gradually, as the site matures and gains a reasonable amount of links over time, Google will include the site as part of its search results. The sandbox refers to websites that are usually removed from the search index results. The removal is typically a penalty for what Google views as poor behavior as it relates to search engine optimization, spam, or web content.

Question - What does the Can-Spam Act actually mean?

Answer - CAN-SPAM is an acronym for Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act. The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, came into effect in the United States as law on January 1, 2004. It establishes requirements for those who send commercial email, and spells out penalties for individuals and companies that choose to violate the law. The primary purpose of the act is to restrict the advertising or promoting of a commercial product or service (including content or a website) by defining guidelines.

Besides spelling out the penalties, the CAN-SPAM Act prohibits false or misleading header information. This means that you cannot "spoof" the 'to', 'from' or routing information, the sender must be accurately reflected.

The CAN-SPAM act also prohibits deceptive subject lines. In other words, the subject must relate to the actual message contents. Email recipients must be provided a method to opt-out of any future email. The opt-out requests must be complied within 10 days. The final large contingent that is stipulated by the CAN-SPAM act is that commercial emails must be identified as advertisements and must include the senders valid postal address.

Question - What is a sticky website and how do I make my website 'sticky'?

Answer - A sticky website refers to a website that attracts and retains customers. The best way to create a website that will be continually visited and returned to is by producing and creating new content. Give your website's visitors a reason to come back. Another component to stickiness is a good communication channel. This might mean providing the content via RSS, so visitors are immediately aware of any new information available. It might also mean an opt-in newsletter that is sent on a regularly scheduled basis.

Question - What is the Long Tail, and how do I get one?

Answer - The Long Tail pertains to a relatively simple concept, that capturing all of the the small volume, and will result in a collectively large volume. With regards to the keyword long tail, the idea is that there are only a few words or phrases that receive a large number of searchers, but there are a huge number of obscure phrases or keywords that receive a small number of searches each month. By capturing top ranking for all of the less popular terms you could in effect receive more traffic than you would if you had top ranking for the popular terms.

Capturing the keyword long tail, is very difficult. It requires massive amounts of unique content. Webmasters have generally found the easiest way to generate unique copy is through user-generated content (ie. forums, blog comments, or user reviews).

Question - What is deep linking? And How do I deep link my website?

Answer - Deep linking refers to links to all levels of a particular website. A website that has an extensive network of quality deep links, shows true value. By having incoming links to multiple webpages at all directory levels, the website is perceived as content rich by search engines. A website that only receives incoming links to the "front page" will not fair as well in search engines because the assumption is that it is not a content rich website.

The Dirty Little Secret Nobody Tells You About Website Split Testing...

I’ve got a confession to make. This may come as a surprise to you (after all, I’m a testing fanatic)... But, testing doesn’t improve website conversion every time.

Nearly all "online marketing gurus" promote the benefits of conducting split tests and multi-variable tests on your website. But, few (if any) tell you the WHOLE truth about how to test, what to test and what results to realistically expect from your testing.

The consequences? Many online markers become confused by and disappointed with their first fledgling attempts at conducting testing campaigns on their websites.

Because their results often don’t live up to the "hype", they become discourage and simply assume that "testing doesn’t work" or "it’s not worth the effort".

I hear this from my clients all the time. They will tell me, "oh... I tried testing on my site and it didn’t help."

Well... in an effort to clear up a few of the misconceptions about testing and help folks overcome some of the unrealistic expectations that simply set them up for disappointment, I’m about to tell you the "dirty little secret" that the gurus usually fail to mention.

Every variable you test will NOT automatically improve sales. In fact MOST of the variables you test will either reduce response or make no measurable difference!

In fact, after conducting over 6,000 split and multivariable tests over the past six years I’ve generated some pretty good data on what you can expect to achieve in a typical testing campaign.

In most multivariable tests only 1/4 to 1/3 of your variables will boost response. Another 1/4 to 1/3 of your test variables will actually reduce response. And 1/3 to 1/2 of your variables won’t make a measurable difference.

(Well... that’s not entirely true. If you run any test long enough a winner will usually emerge, but it is not worth the trouble to let a campaign run for months on end just for a 1/10th of a percent improvement in conversion.)

Of course, the more experience you gain in testing, the better your odds of finding a variable that will be a winner... but you still have no guarantees.

Often variables that you are sure will boost sales, wind up having no effect or worse, decrease response.

I’ve seen tests where a 1 year guarantee was tested against NO guarantee and the no guarantee version won. I’ve conducted price tests in which we tested $17 vs. $97 and $97 converted better! (Not just higher visitor value, but actually higher conversion!)

So it really is impossible to know in advance what version or variable is going to win. Experience and prior testing data can help you make an educated guess, but you still have to test it and see.

I view selecting test variables, kind of like picking stocks. You can do all of your homework, use a variable that has boosted response on every other site you tested and still not have a winner.

And the opposite can happen. You can test a variable that you are almost positive will be a dog, (or even make an error when setting up your variables) and it can boost response. I’ve often seen headlines that I hated or graphic images that were down right UGLY convert better than the more appealing versions.

So just like picking a stock, past performance doesn’t guarantee future results! Every single variable you test will not be a winner. In fact when it comes to the stock market, if you can pick a winning trade just 51% of the time, you’ll become rich.

The same principle applies to test variable selection. If you’re able to consistently pick winning variables 50% or the time or more, you’re doing an outstanding job! (Or you’re simply not running enough tests...)

Now, am I telling you all of this to discourage you from testing? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Like I said at the beginning of the article, I’m a testing fanatic.

I’ve seen small businesses transformed into "big" businesses almost overnight via proper testing.

I’ve seen a laid off, single father go from struggling to pay the bills selling an ebook to making a solid six figure income by only tweaking and testing 4 items on his sales letter.

Done right (and with proper expectations) testing can indeed change your life and transform your business.

I just want to make sure that you go into the process with the right, long term mindset and that you don’t become discouraged and quit if your first attempts at testing fail to yield earth shattering improvements in response.

The good news for testing is, because you can flush the variables that don’t boost response and only keep the "winners", even if you only pick a winner 10% of the time you’ll still make huge gains in conversion and response over the long haul.

Happy testing!

Effective Marketing For The Webmaster

Throughout my experience in Marketing, I have found that simply placing ads in free classified sites, FFA (free for all), and participating in safelists does not work anymore. It used to, but that is not the case any longer. I also have found out that you do not have to pay for any advertising for it to be effective.

The key to "Effective Marketing" is creativity. If you start really thinking about how you might go about promoting your business/website, then you might be surprised at what you come up with. Here are some free methods to get you started. You need to make Google/Yahoo/MSN or any favorite search engine a good friend. Use these to your advantage for finding the following places below.

1) Work At Home/Business Forums or Message Boards:
Find and create accounts at various work at home or business message forums. After creating your account then proceed to create your signature. A signature is a block of text at the end of a message that states your name and your business/website/affiliate program. Please read the posting rules at all forums. Some do not allow signatures...and some do not allow posting your business ad. Always be careful of these rules...you could be banned. Signature advertising in forums/message boards has found to be very effective.

2) Directories:
Find and sign up with various business directories. Add your business/website to them. There are tons of these that do not require a reciprocal link back. You will find the occasional ones that require a fee...just pass those up and go on to the next one, as there are several. For the ones that do require a link back, it is advisable to choose the ones with a high page rank.

3) Link and Banner Exchanging:
There are many, many webmasters that are willing to exchange links/banners with you. This method of advertising is called networking and is really a great free way to promote your business. You can let webmasters know that you would like to exchange links with them through various forums, OR...you can look up websites (that relate to your business), and simply email the webmaster (site owner) and propose that you would like to exchange links or banners. Always keep up with your emails and follow up with a polite reply. You will be pleasantly surprised at the responses you will get.

4) Ezines and Newsletters:
Ezines and newsletters are basically online magazines. You can subscribe to them and enter your ad and affiliate program or website URL. Most of these are free to subscribe to, and also free to enter your ad. These ezines/newsletters have a large membership base. By using this method of advertising, your business/website would reach a large audience.

5) Offline Advertising:
This is where you will use your creativity. There are literally endless offline advertising ideas that you can use. You can make up flyers, business cards, letters, and give them out to friends and relatives. You can post them at grocery stores, laundry mats, department stores, libraries, theatres, schools...basically anywhere where it is allowed.
One example of an idea:
If you are at a theatre...leave some of your business cards in the restroom. You might be surprised at who will look and pick them up. Just use your imagination...have fun and be creative.

6) Articles:
You might try writing some articles that relate to your business or website. Many ezines and newsletters that you subscribe to let you post your written articles. And again, this method would be free of charge. At the end of your article, mention the URL of your business or website.

One of the powerful tools in online “email” marketing is to build an opt-in mailing list.
The best gift of this powerful tool is the possibility of being able to talk to people who are particularly interested in your product, service or organization.

There are do’s and don’ts in starting your opt-in mailing list. Here are some of the most important tips worth mentioning:

DO’S

1.Put a subscription form prominently on your website. You can create your own subscription form using a software Sign-Up to’s form builder.
2.Inform people that they can subscribe to your email list on the signature of your normal work emails. This will enable it to link straight through the form on your website.
3.Ask people permission if they do want to be subscribed on your mailing list. As much as possible avoid being suspected for SPAM.
4.Open options for subscription especially during your interactions with them. Always be ready with your subscription cards if you run in on events.
5.Be clear on how people can benefit from subscribing and how often will you contact them. Make them know exactly what they will be receiving.
6.If you can, contact new subscriber as soon as you can. Welcome them with notes and tell them what to expect.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and list experts is time. If you'll invest a little more time in reading, you'll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to list.

DON’T

1.Add everyone who has ever emailed you to your list. Always ask permission first.
2.Purchase lists that you are not 100% sure that are opt-in. Always have an evidence to prove the legitimacy of the opt-ins.
3.Abuse people’s trust. This is a sure way to ruin your brand and you. Soon enough they will ignore your messages.

Building your opt-in mailing list is cheaper than in sending direct mails. Printing, envelopes and paper used as material further add up to the cost. Here are some ways to effectively start your opt-in mailing list:

1.Free Newsletter. One of the most effective ways to build an opt-in list is to offer your online visitors freebies of value such as newsletter which will contain information that they can relate to such as tips, tools, recipes, travel itineraries and others.
2.Make it Easy to Subscribe. Provide easy steps for subscription so that subscribers may find it easy to do so and would not be discourage. For more subscribers, tell them the exact benefits they can get out of the subscription.
3.Quality Content. Be sure that what is written inside the newsletter, freebies and information found in your website are all of value to increase visitors dropping by your website.
4.Forums. Discussion boards and forums are all over the net. Try to actively participate in these boards especially those in the line of your interest or your business. Try to build your reputation with credibility.
5.Write articles. This makes you an instant expert in your chosen field of interest. You just have to play on it and use it well in your business goal.
6.Co-registration. A very effective way to build a monster list in a very short time.
7.Write an e-book. An excellent freebie for those who visited and subscribe in your mailing list. The e-book does not have to be expensively made or elaborate but it can be a compilation or a collection of best articles, business tips and resources.

In building opt-in mailing lists always keep in mind to offer something of value to your prospects. Remember opt-in lists are the foundations of most profitable internet business so do not miss chances for improvement and developing new strategies.

Take a look at these 10 Quick Easy Steps to Building A Highly Targeted and Responsive Opt-in List.

1.Choose your target market or niche. Remember you are not the only one competing in internet marketing; you have to be sure who your internet marketing is.
2.Be sure that you can reach your target audience online.
3.Do not waste on time on a non-profit investment or spending. Always monitor your spending.
4.Forums and discussion boards are available for maximum use. Find your target market problems.
5.Identify what is keeping your customers from getting what they want and help them get it.
6.Try offering your viewers solving some of their problems.
7.Set up a simple direct response mini-site.
8.Get an auto-responder account. It is important for you to acquire and set this thing up because this is where your visitors will come.
9.Bait your potential customers through giveaways like: ebooks, special reports, mini courses and coupons, etc. 10.Reach out in any way you can to your target market.

Opt-in building is a tedious work but with amazing results. The process of building it takes time and effort but persists. Always treat your “find” as a goldmine so that you will offer them the best deals in the market, those with great quality and value. Doing all these, would earn you credibility and a profitable business on the Internet.

I agree totally with everything that has been said in many other places about the reasons people who enter network marketing fail. Unrealistic expectations, lack of knowledge, inexperience, embarrassment, fear, and so on.

It's sad, because almost any good business can eventually be developed into a great business if the people do two things:

1. Get trained in "network" marketing (and it doesn't have to cost a ton of money, nor require embarrassment)

2. Don't give up.

It's obvious that if I have a good product, and enough money to buy a well-designed billboard ad on the busiest highway in America, I will probably do okay...and fairly quickly. Same is true if I can hire the best advertising company to put a 30 second spot on half-time of the Super Bowl.

However, most of us in network marketing, just don't have that kind of money, do we?

For most beginners, "marketing" consists of handing out one or two business cards or brochures a day, or making a couple of cold calls, or luring two or three visitors to a mediocre website (or one that looks like everybody else's).

Since successful selling is, in most cases, in direct proportion to the number of contacts made, presentations given, or brochures handed out, such slow-play tactics are probably not going to yield overwhelming results, at least not right away.

The new network marketer is probably also dealing with lack of time in addition to ignorance, uncertainty, and the slings and arrows of those who could be supporting his or her attempt to achieve success.

Combine all the negatives, including poor income results, if any, and you have a recipe for failure, as many of us in network marketing know from experience.

One way to change this is to make the new network marketer aware that success is going to take time. Unfortunately, this adds another negative to the pile, even before he or she gets started. At least before we provided this fact of life, the new network marketer could at least hope that tomorrow would bring a ton of sales.

However, now we can lighten that load by helping erase some of the fear of failure or embarrassment, and take some of the financial burden off of the new marketer by showing him or her different ways to market.

Most new network marketers have a mortal fear of trying to "sell" something. Two ways to change this are to change the product, or at least reassess it, and to teach the new network marketer how to stop selling.

First, they should start with a product that is of real value that they have used or would have no problem recommending to friends and family, even if they were not selling it.

NOTE: A lot of companies will tell a new marketer to contact their "warm market" first, that is, friends, family, coworkers, etc. For many, this can be the kiss of death. I don't want to go too deeply into this right now, but many times, Uncle Bob just really doesn't want your product and may even resent your inserting sales into the family. If you can show Uncle Bob that you have a good product that people use and respect you for carrying, he will come to you eventually...if he needs it. In addition, many new network marketers manage to alienate their warm market with their first, bad attempt at selling things. Later, when they know what they are doing or when they find a product that they really believe would be of value, their warm market turns very cold when they show up.

Second, they should stop selling the product, and begin to sell themselves. This relieves the embarrassment and pressure of trying to sell things. Ninety percent of the people they try to sell things to will not be in the mood or position to buy at the moment they are being pitched to. Even if they are, they put up defenses the moment they realize that a sales pitch is coming at them. They will refuse even if the product is exactly what they need and is below the price of any equivalent they could find elsewhere.

If, however, they know you and like you and know that you sell a health care plan, if, two months from now, they realize that they need a health care plan, they will probably think of you. If you have convinced them that you are an honest and honorable human being who can be trusted and would not sell them a bill of goods, there is a good chance that your phone will ring, and THEY will be asking YOU about your product or service.

If production of income is going to be slow anyway, why not spend the time building a network of friends rather than a network of people who move to the other side of the street to avoid you? Why go through all the rejection? It is also often easier to make a new friend every day than to make a new sales pitch. If you join the right groups and participate in the right activities, you may just find yourself with a rapidly increasing network of friends, who are not only potential customers and business partners, but contacts who will tell others about you.

That's networking.

Too many new marketers are engrossed(or enticed) with statements like:
"I make $30,000 in just one week"

Granted, they are true. But too many new marketers thought that Internet Marketing is a Magic Pill, a remedy to make quick bucks.

No wonder we have people getting conned in various money-making program that promises the sky and get nothing in the end.

And, some marketers thought they could put in a minimum effort and hope to make big buck in the end. That's also wrong.

When we say "Internet Marketing is a BUSINESS", it means:
1) Like any other businesses offline, you need to have a marketing plan
2) Like any other businesses offline, you need to work on it

3) You can work at home for online business
Plus many others.
